THE ECOTONE OF STORY: HOUSTON.

Where the World Meets Itself during the World Cup

A Residency at The Lymbar
by Marlon F. Hall

The Ecotone of Culture Salon of Tulsa 2022. A cross-pollination of stories and histories.

Community Partners: The Community Artists Collective • Ruby Projects • Rothko Chapel • Anti-Defamation League • Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church • Congregation Beth Yeshurun

As Houston welcomes the world during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this residency transforms The Lymbar into a site of sculpture, storytelling, music, and shared meals. Inspired by the ecological concept of an ecotone—the fertile place where different environments meet and create conditions for new life—The Ecotone of Story: Houston explores what becomes possible when people from different cultures, faiths, histories, and ways of seeing do more than coexist and truly encounter one another.

UNEARTHING BEAUTY FROM BROKENNESS: The Exhibition

A series of sculptural works assembled from reclaimed doors, burned remnants, salvaged metal, and symbolic fragments gathered across Houston, Tulsa, Kenya, Italy, Madison, and beyond. These works function as portals—holding memory, migration, faith, grief, and resilience as separate stories become shared artifacts.
