The Hueman Project

Art has a remarkable ability to evoke emotion, inspire action, and serve as a catalyst for social change. "Welcome Home" is an immersive, multimedia experience exploring the essence of home through visual storytelling, interactive technology, and public art—co-created with those whose stories are honored here.

Our intention is to harness the transformative power of art by collaborating with individuals affected by homelessness—empowering them to tell their own stories, in their own words. This project is designed for safety, movement, reflection, and dignity. We are inviting people who are named victims to become victors through the agency of their stories and resilience.

I am honored to lead the Bloomberg Philanthropies funded Multi-Media Art Installation driven by colors, shapes, and sculptural forms at the I-45 and Spur 527 underpass at Milam Street in Houston’s Midtown a block from the iconic The Breakfast Klub.

In partnership with the City of Houston, Midtown Management, Texas Department of Transportation, alongside an extraordinary team of artists and chosen family from Career and Recovery, my partner Peter Merwin and I are working with a solid team of creatives, activists, and architects to awaken a dark underpass with color to tell the stores of seven people effected by homelessness.

More than a project that disrupts the perception of homelessness, this is  a visual meditation and portal that leads us back to the homes that we are in mind, body, and spirit through the resilient stories of the unhoused. More than people who are in need of an agency of change, through the power of storytelling they are agents of change.

Our intention is to harness the transformative power of art by collaborating with individuals affected by homelessness—empowering them to tell their own stories, in their own words. This project is designed for safety, movement, reflection, and dignity. We are inviting people who are named victims to become victors through the agency of their stories and resilience.

These individuals are not merely victims of systemic failure—they are storytellers, visionaries, and change agents who nurture human flourishing through their lived experiences. This installation stands as a testament to their resilience, brilliance, and humanity.
